Uncomfortable Baggage

It makes sense to me that some European countries still have laws about how late businesses can be open, and how may hours a person can work in a week.

We Americans work ourselves to death.

Stress kills. People have illnesses, heart attacks, sleeping problems… and one might say it’s in pursuit of the almighty dollar, except that now most people have to work that hard just to maintain their bills and eat. We still may live in excess compared to others, but our cost of living is so high it’s become troublesome.

We spend less time with each other, and sometimes when we have free time from work, it’s not really free. Day to day tasks sometimes take up our time off, until we no longer have any down-time to relax. Lacking the time to unplug, we begin to make ourselves sicker, and more miserable.

Mandate some time for yourself, to really relax and enjoy life. Set aside time especially for your loved ones, too. You need it to keep your health and sanity intact.

Electronic Vacation

Recently, John Scalzi wrote a blog post about “punishing the publisher”.

Par of what inspired the conversation, in part, may have been the recent fiasco between MacMillan and Amazon.com. Basically, amazon pulled a bunch of MacMillan books from their list of Kindle format books. The argument was a pricing dispute.
